Have you ever wondered why people often says;" The gaming industry is a very 'UNIQUE' industry?”.Well, if you haven't heard, soon you will be!
But what is exactly so 'unique' about it?
Have you people ever wondered;" Why are people so INTRIGUED by the gaming industry, What exactly is that MYSTERIOUS FACTOR about gaming that LURES people?, Why do gamblers keep going back?, What makes people addictive to gambling?, Why are VIPs willing to take BIG RISK in risking huge amount of $$$ on the gaming tables and lastly, What are the reasons that make people want to work in the gaming industry in the first place?"
One cold day during winter last January, all these questions popped into my head right there on the casino floor in Crown Macau, sitting right next to a high roller who was betting $50,000 a hand. More often than not, he loses more than he wins. Ouch! I kept wondering........
"Why don't you rather give me the $$$ to splurge on designer handbags instead? *(That's my desire)
A casino exists to 'GAME' on the psychological aspects on human desires, the stronger your desires for something, the higher the risk people will take. Human desires comes in many forms-Tangible and Intangible.
A few examples: Money, Sex, Alcohol, Cigarettes, Power, Status, Food, Luxuries, Wonderful memorable experiences and etc....
Which one of the above have you not seen in the gaming industry? IT'S ALL IN!
One question here:"Is having desires a BAD THING?", in my opinion, NO!
However, gamblers have got to understand- The GAMING industry is big business and nobody would be senile enough to used multi billion dollars to build a casino and use LUCK to gamble with you! But on the other hand as gamblers, the moment you stepped into the casino, you have already lost a certain percentage of $$$ and you are only leveraging on LUCK to gamble with the house! Do you really think gamblers truly understand what's probability and house edge? No, they don't! They only want to win and that's it!
Gamblers desire to win more $$$ all the time, some hardcore ones desire to 'BEAT THE HOUSE' and constantly think that there's definitely ways to do it. Employees desire to climb up the ladder, gain power, gain status, High rollers desire to be served like royalties, to be indulge in good food, luxuries and to have beautiful girls to essort them around whereas a few minorities desire to have a feel of good experiential experience of the facilities and services provided by the resort.
The only thing: " How far will you go for that desire?"
For me everything comes with discipline and all things comes with a price. Every human desire are different but you can see all forms in the casino industry. That's the reason why is the casino industry so interesting!
It's always good to have desires because it motivates you to work harder but never cloud your head with undesirable desires which you know will tarnish your reputation forever
