The job of Mr. Dealer!
By: Estelle Tayler

Who told you that the job of a dealer is just to deal? Who told you the job of a dealer is easy? But well, if you think your job is just to deal and your job is easy, you better think twice!

It's definitely easy to get a job as a dealer because our country is in need of you. But the difficult thing is how to be the BEST, how to be the most OUTSTANDING and how to be RECOGNISED? Everyone aims to be promoted. Everyone aims to go higher. Everybody wants recognition. But what exactly is management looking for? Do you really know who are the MANAGEMENT? Before you think of all these, the first thing you need to think of is how to be even GOOD! -What is your definition of a GOOD dealer? (*Think about it*)

A dealer is the casino frontline 1st officer!
Multi million dollars transaction that takes place every single minute and second goes through the "CLEAN HANDS" of this officer. Announcement made "SHARP" and "CLEAR" to alert your immediate supervisor.

Your customer on the table smiles at you, chatted with you, are you going to show just a "GRIN" and deal in your game strictly and try not to talk to your customer too much BECAUSE YOU THINK THE MORE YOU TALK,THE MORE SHA QI you lose, the more the table will lose money?
*(SHA QI means AURA)

As said, the casino dealer is the frontline officer, can you really just show a "GRIN"? Just imagine a bank teller at the frontline givng you just a "GRIN" and take away the thousands of dollars which you passed onto her hands? Do you think she will think that she will lose that "SHA QI" and the bank will start losing money?

Keeping the game pace fast is definitely one of the most important thing that a dealer needs to do! This is ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT CRITERIAs FOR PROMOTION!
Imagine: You are dealing on a face down baccarat table, the customer is already taking their own sweet time squeezing the cards and this had already caused the game to delay, what will happen if the dealer cannot CALCULATE simple 5% tax comission fast and delayed the game more?
How many games on a face down baccarat table is considered fast? 40 hands and above per hour!

I heard from one of my friends who was in the top management level telling me that there are dealers who deals only about 6 hands an hour on a face down baccarat table!

A dealer who is STRONG and GOOD are dealers who are able to cope with stress at all levels even when tables are losing money. They are still able to keep a calm composure, maintaining high alert on table, maintaining that smile, chatty and still engaging in active interaction with players but still maintaining a steady game pace. When tables are losing money, it's never the dealer's fault! UNLESS THE DEALER IS FARKED IN THE CALCULATIONS AND SLOW DOWN THE GAME PACE!

Also, If you see any customer on the table playing with an average bet of SGD200 and above per hand, ask them for their membership card, encourage them to open a membership and remember to get your supervisors to swipe their cards! Tell customers that they would be able to get free complimentary when they use the cards on all the games they played, make the life of a casino host easier and you will make customer happy!

A dealer’s immediate superior is their inspector or pit supervisor and pit managers are accessed by gaming shift managers! And CUSTOMERS are accessing all dealers as well because you are the frontline first officer! All levels are carefully accessed for promotions and recognition. Analyze your strengths and work on your weaknesses! Never take your career as JUST A JOB and JUST DO WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO DO!

The moral of this blog?

Do more than what you are just suppose to do, learn more than what you are expected to know!
