Mr. Dealer! Loosen up a bit!
By: Estelle Tayler

Have you ever stepped into a casino, sit on a table, start betting and all of a sudden, “FUCK!” -The four letters words just came out of your mouth just like that? This usually happens due to frustration when bad luck hits you repeatedly on the table.

But what happen if Mr or Miss Dealer looked at you, call the pit supervisor and the supervisor tells you off that, “Sir, we do not allow swearing in the casino!?”

"What is wrong with you people?, why can't I swear?, I'm not in a church, am I? Will you pick up your chips and vow never to play in this casino ever again?

In Asia, most casino dealers, supervisors, pit bosses always have a mentality that they are working for the government perhaps in a church or even a police station, all of them are so serious which makes me wondered if this is actually a casino which I have stepped in.

“Come on, you are not cops or junior FBI agents so stop acting as such”-Too many rules, too many attitudes, too much emphasis on rating the customer but never enough emphasis on having FUN with the customer.

“Isn't the product we are selling suppose to be an entertainment event?” Nowadays, there's no more fun in table games anymore. Everybody runs around seems to be in a definite NO-FUN MODE,SOMETIMES EVEN CLOSE TO BEING MISERABLE.

“Loosen up Mr. Dealer!, although there are game procedures and protection issues that you must deal with but you don't have to act like you are protecting the president, do you?”

Your job may requires you to deal with all the technical functions that go with the territory. Game procedural issues, accounting, managing the dealers and game protection are all part of the job but unless you pit bosses get more into the customer interactive roles you need to get into, your position may soon vanish.

Try having some fun with the customers. Even better, try having some fun with the employees. Yuk it up a little bit. You will find both your job and your dealer’s job a lot more enjoyable.

The moral of this blog?

“It’s not just a job, it’s an adventure!”
